Thought I'd maybe try a crack at starting this up again, but seeing as I'm not in the writ340 class, this would be more art oriented than previously. SO. Ive recently played Dragon Age 2 which I might add is the most fucktastically awesome sauce on a steak game. Though I have my bones to pick with it, I wont go into that. At least not now. Anyways, after playing it I did a little cruising for concept art to feed the Fenris fan girl in me, who doesnt like a hunking elf with social issues? (You can rip out my heart with your cold claw hands any time baby ;) ) And while I was disappointed in the lack of half naked elf pictures, I was even more disappointed to see the works of Matt Rhodes who was one of the artist for Dragon Age2 and even MORE disappointed to realized that compared to him. I fucking suck. Balls. Hairy ones. Shit. So now I'm on a quest to beat myself into artly shape and during this spring break I'll be designing concept for a character a day. Preferably, full out colored photoshop and shit but heh we all know me... I was gonna just post them on facebook but I feel like a FB whore and honestly I'm sure 99% of the people who would see this in their news feed would see it as spam. :( bastards. Therefore, instead I'll be talking to myself like an idiot and posting it here! Hurrah! DAY ONE With a sad attempt to replace the Fenris in my heart, I give you Iladon Aristya. Mercenary assassin of the forest with a cross bow on his arm and a god knows what contraption of a blade on his other. Isnt he pretty. posted by GOTOMonster @ 10:43 PM 0 Comments On Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 10:43 PM

Tis the Season for Unemployment Falalala...
Yes, kiddies, tis the season. The moment that every college student fears. Jobs(You may shit in your pants now) Last semester of junior year has only begun but definitely will fly by like a slippery sausage and here I am, left with few options. I've been looking around for internships and figuring where I want to go and where I want to stay. As of now there is an internship at Disney Interactive, up in north hollywood. Yah, Disney. A lot of people would be ecstatic to be working for big ole Disney. But sadly that enthusiasm does not reach me..I almost see Disney as a downgrade from the true gaming world. I mean hell, who wants to work on Toon Town Online..Yah when Blizzard sees that on my resume they'll get a kick out of it. Speaking of Blizzard, what the hell is this?! "Blizzard Entertainment is looking for an exceptionally skilled 3D character artist for a team developing a next-generation massively multiplayer online game." You're making a new mmorpg without me?! What the hell!! Job hunting is no fun..Fuck this isnt even job hunting, this is internship hunting! I feel like Elmer Fud running around hunting that "darn wabbit"!!! ---unfinished post..im too angery right now--- posted by GOTOMonster @ 7:49 PM 0 Comments On Friday, February 5, 2010 at 7:49 PM
Discovered a new Flight Path!
Fuck.So college is ending soon, Im heading into my last semester as a junior and sooner or later Ima have to get my ass out in the world. Im pretty set on becoming a game designer so that aint a biggie, but where I want to work is another issue. All the big shot companies I want to work for are based in Tokyo but I dont speak any more japanese than a white jap-wannabe. (Next stop would be Blizzard but with them who knows if i'll get a chance to make my own game or more or less do anything of my own design). Japan looks like a nice option for me but "people" tell me that everyone comes from Asia to America for a job not the other way around. Which honestly to me makes no sense since most of the leading game companies are in fucking Japan. Ofcourse, in Japan i'd have to deal with sexism and risking not getting any where just cuz I got a set up north and not down south. America seems to be catching up in the gaming world but going in a different direction than I really want. Most pure American games are all in it for the shits and giggles or for "educational purposes" (ohh youre so fancy). But I want do make a story out of it. So sorry but Japan =1 Usa =0 as usual. (Slight reference to Anime Expo where Usa team got owned by Japan team) Benefits of going to Japan would be: More schools that are geared to my kind of training. More Jobs of the sort Better chance of working on the kinds of games I want Benefits of staying in LA: Closer to family(?) Slightly higher chance for a job since there arent many WOMEN video game designers I already have some what of a presence, at least with my Profs I dont know maybe SquareEnix just needs to open up shop over here. Its either Tokyo or Los Angeles.. posted by GOTOMonster @ 1:50 PM 0 Comments On Monday, January 4, 2010 at 1:50 PM
So I've gotten back into World of Warcraft (sadly) and back into the ring of Blizzard products and their a many expansions (Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, Burning Leigon, Wrath of the Lich King, Booger of Arthas). And every one right now is sitting on the edge of their seats waiting to see which will come out first, Diablo 3 or Starcraft 2 and its almost as entertaining as watching two snails race. In fact its exactly like watching two snails race, cuz not only will they take an infinite amount of time to get to the finish line but you get to watch as they veer off in various directions, sometimes backtracking, seeing as their minute brains cant comprehend that there just might be a nice little snack at the finish line. I mean, fuck. Starcraft 2 Poker set. Really? You could have been working on the damn game you've been advertising for the past 5 years and you decide to make a fucking poker set? (Tho with my recent addiction to texas hold em, I was greatly tempted...you sneaky bastards) And you, Diablo 3. You and your flaunting about like a street whore, releasing tidbits of footage about each new class, making me believe that there is actually some kind of progress occurring, filling me with false hope! Though I have to admit. This is an ingenious marketing strategy. I heard that WarHammer was advertised like crazy and made a killing just on pre orders then when they were satisfied they gathered what crap they had done so far and kicked it out the door. Greeting the eager players with bugs galore. I trust Blizzard enough to not stoop this low, if anything they do know how to deliver and each of their games has been received with bountyful shrieks from nerds around the world. However, looking around the employment page, Im really tempted to apply and say I'll finish the damn game myself if that makes it come out any faster. posted by GOTOMonster @ 9:52 PM 0 Comments On Sunday, January 3, 2010 at 9:52 PM
Its time to D-D-D-D-D-DDUEL
So heres a little update that doesn't really have much to do with gaming. Well I lied, its a form of gaming but not the computer kind. Remember that game, pokemon? yah? You thought the fact that pikachu could own every pokemon was way too broken? Yah so did I. Well this has nothing to do with pokemon, I just felt like making that point. This is about Yu-Gi-Oh. Damn Straight. Yu-Gi-Oh. Recently one of my friends has gotten me into it and its kind of the reason why I haven't been gaming as much. (Tear tear) But to be honest, if you thought this was just some game little teenie bopper boys played while giggling softly to themselves, holy crap are you wrong. This shit is intense. I would almost debate that Yu-Gi-Oh could raise your IQ a notch or two. If not then at the very least you'd be some kind of Ender and be able to develop mind fuck strategies in that little head of yours. I seriously underestimated card games. And as I realize more and more that I am, sadly, the only girl in the geek-fest orgy called Franks n Sons, that Yu-Gi-Oh is some serious shit. I feel like I'd actually have to think as compared to just running around in an mmorpg and randmly button mashing. Whether this means Warhammer is now giving up mmorpgs....probably not. (I just need to find a good one right now, any suggestions?) But seriously, I have to say, either people are just too lazy to take the time to learn card games and strategies or they're just too retarded to...but wth? this shits fun. Why did it die out in the first place?! Gee our kids today, just want instant gratification with their fancy xbox 360043597345 or the playstation 129837231. I swear, while I love online gaming and shit, the world of gaming is going down hill.. Its less about the games and more about the people. Boys n Girls
Is an LM.C Song!
Just kidding. Anyways, I've kind of skipped over a "big" topic of players in the gaming world. I use quotes because I've been around it for so long that it doesn't appear to me as big anymore. I've become cold and numb to it as I cuddle my ps2 controller. But, yah. Who's better at games, boys or girls? (Men, I suggest you answer with caution if you're dating a gamer girl, you might get your accounts hacked as revenge. Its our version of sleeping on the couch). People claim that there is factual proof that boys are physically better at games, just like people believe boys are better at sports and fighting. I highly doubt this, I've taken down some pretty hefty guys at the expense of their dignity. THOUGH, I will give it that, most guys are better than girls. Simply because girls take a different approach to ...life? The way I see it is that it speaks a little on how society. Men are the providers, the workers, and the womens' bitches (theres my tidbit of feminism for the day). :D Men have it brain washed that they gotta go at it like crazy and work harder to become better than everyone around them. Kinda like how monkeys beat up each other to prove their worth to a mate (whether this is a metaphor or not its left to you to decide). But simply put, men have a mindset that they are required to prove themselves constantly, where as women....not so much. Women are allowed to have failures and are allowed to take things much slower. (aka, this is my excuse for getting my ass kicked by steve in starcraft >_> ) Though this does have truth to it, women aren't pressured therefore we don't work as hard, therefore we tend to be...worse. Of course this doesn't apply to ALL gamer girls, but just the ones that are like me...lazy. posted by GOTOMonster @ 10:09 AM 0 Comments On Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at 10:09 AM
Rest in Pixels
CaptainPants has just been slained by Rapist.Im not kidding, theres a monster called Rapist in Diablo 2. Its in act 4. You know that dying is the last thing on the mind of a gamer. Death to us is like having to repark your car closer to the enterance of Best Buy on Black Friday. Its fucking annoying. Its kinda funny how death becomes just an inconvenience since theres no "real" consequence to you when it occurs. Sure you learn that you cant kill the monster, you just got owned by a guy, or it was REALLY stupid to run through a mob of Yetis before checking that you have enough mana. Fail. But in all seriousness, theres a correlation between this lost of consequences and that guy who shot his own computer with a real gun while playing tomb raider (nice job) or that guy who killed his friend for...uh ....stealing money from his character? This is where I might agree that video games have a negative impact on people, it teaches you to lose a sense of reality that THINGS DO GO OW. But then I'd have to argue that its just retards that dont realize this :p You can go on and debate that this only occurs to those who probably deserve it if they even BEGAN to think that their actions were reasonable. And Im not arguing that video games SHOULD have a negative result when you die, I sure as hell dont wanna feel my head being blown off. But you have to wonder...what the hell are people thinking when its okay to shoot someone just because they do it in a videogame. posted by GOTOMonster @ 11:01 PM 0 Comments On Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at 11:01 PM
Move those wimpy caster legs of yours!
Theres an issue in mmorpgs, that some encourage racism (or factionism to be specific, factions are simply explained as good versus evil kind of shit). So, obviously you got people hatin on each other, calling the other race fags or noobs. You got like, WarHammer where Destruction is a bunch of power hungery 13 yr olds and Order is a bunch of pansies. Same goes for World of Warcraft (with a similar sense that the "light" side is referred to a bunch of pansies and etc). It goes on. But what I find funny is that stereotypes extend as far as what class you play. And when I say stereotypes I mean you can judge a person by what they play. Mages are a bunch of intellectual, stuck up, wimps, warriors are all brawn and no brains, hunters/archers are chickens who specialize in running away, and rogues are just jack asses. So on. WTH? I particularly take offense to the Hunter comment, dont hate just because I can snipe your sorry little ass before you get even 30 feet on me. But yah, Ive seen dark elves in warhammer to be classified as antisocial emos (thats kind of redundant to say) and a lot of Asses of Destruction come from specifically the witch elf class of the Dark elves. Apparently, they tend to be played by 30 yr old insecure women who think they're so hot that they can be bitches. Sadly I tend to agree, and at the same time I cant say Im innocent seeing I have had moments of bitchyness while on my witch elf..who was named Skank.... But its just interesting that certain types of people will play certain classes, based on their personalities. For me, I like the archer/hunter type because I like the fight to be ALL THE FUCK OVER THERE while Im over here snipping off punks. Which says a little about my personality, because I dont like the focus where I am. Im more of a person who likes to work behind the scenes (so to speak) I guess you could call that cowardly, but you know what. Tell me that when you get an arrow up your ass. posted by GOTOMonster @ 6:08 PM 0 Comments On Sunday, October 18, 2009 at 6:08 PM

We are what we ate....that makes me a cup of instant macaroni
I noticed that, in every single game that I've played, THAT had other races besides humans, I would NEVERRRRR play a human. Personally, I think they're the suckiest race and often actually are the worst race to play. Its kind of odd that it works out like that since being human would probably encourage you to be your own damn race, right? My own argument for not playing humans is pretty much that I play a video game to escape from the drones of daily life brain rapes. I want to do something else, be something else, achieve something else, anything besides sitting in my god damn chair all day letting my ass multiply in size as it starts to mold itself to my seat... I want to be something else that ISNT me, that ISNT human. If I wanted to be human then I'd get up out of my seat, walk outside and get hit by a car (okay that had no correlation to being human, but whatever). I mean, comon, would you rather be a cool, blue colored, space goat, or a creepy, elf child, like monstrosity, or plain bob over there? This could very well just be me, but I believe video games are a chance to do something you can never do in your pitiful droning life, so why waste the chance just being something you already are (maybe I just have some kind of hidden hate for the human race, ooo alteration). Ofcourse, I've heard arguments otherwise. People want the experience to be more "real" that they wanna feel like its THEM doing the things and not some character they control........*coughgeekcough, excuse me. Hey if that's what tickles your pickle then I suppose I cant say shit...besides saying thats complete shit (OKAY Im kidding, people are more than welcome to their own opinion). But like I said, I dont see why I need my gaming experience to be real. If I wanted a real experience I think I would actually go...outside, you know OUTSIDE? With the sky and the dirt and the sun and something we like to call FRESH AIR? Sure you could say, this is a way for people to do something that they cant really do. I mean thats where the idea of the Wii games (which btw are hard as hell, Wii Boxing should be renamed to Wii Flailing of the Arms). But then thats why you go buy the Wii. You dont sit down for several grilling hours on World of Warcraft or Warhammer. Again, this is probably just me. And yah, I know there are games where you can only play as humans. And yes, I do play those too. I suppose this would contract myself in many ways. All I can say is.....those characters were just too damn cute..how could you NOT want to play a big eyed blue haired anime boy?! P.S. This post kind of went in a different direction than I intended..therefore the title probably makes no sense. Hooray for random! posted by GOTOMonster @ 11:31 PM 0 Comments On Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 11:31 PM
Hardcore never enough
As we all know, probably 90% of the gaming community is ruled by Asians. An even sadder fact is that probably 89% of those Asians, consists of "hardcore gamers". Yup. I'm talkin about those twats that, if you so much were to pick your nose at the wrong time, would go off on you like a Jehovah's witness. Every person whose ventured into the gaming world, know of the players some call "pros" (often mistaken for hardcore gamers) and we have respect for those who truly can master the art of gaming. But then there are those, who (pro or not)are labeled as hardcore gamers, take things a little too seriously. These people have this strange concept, while playing, that the more you yell at others, the better they will become. That everyone is just as serious into the game as they are. And that other people do not have lives..like them. But no. This is wrong. In the end it results in the typical situation (which I would like point to the game Warhammer) where you have one guy on Region chat, yelling at the rest of the realm saying they're all noobs and fail just because no one listened to him. They say addiction tends to be the main belief as to why hardcore gamers are spawning like daisies, other possibilities would be perfectionism, the need for control, or the lack of control players have in their real lives. And of course, there is the famous conclusion that these hardcore twats are just losers who get beaten up in real life and feel like they can regain their lost power by controlling people ingame. My personal favorite is "who cares why they're retarded, they just need to stfu". You'd be surprise how much of our real lives effect who we are online. P.S. Please don't take gaming to this level of seriousness.. A game is ...well a game, its for fun. posted by GOTOMonster @ 1:06 PM 0 Comments On Friday, October 9, 2009 at 1:06 PM
Lordy Lore
How many people actually pay attention when a npc is spamming you 5 pages of text before you can start your quest? I dont. Nah I just click through going, 'blah blah blah okay what do I have to kill?' So apparently this is kind of an issue in mmorpgs now days. How many people pay attention to the lore, or the background story of the game? Every mmorpg you come across will have a nice fairy tale story, be it that youre so far deep in war that you cant even smell your own crap, or that life is just overrun by furry little bunnies and someone needs saving, but with the heavy competition between players, who the hell is gonna care about why they just murdered a whole clan of centaurs. Players now a days seem to focus more on the end game and fighting other players that theres no time to bother with the story. Or some people just dont care at all (I pledge guilty). However there are several players that still get WAY into the lore and care about the storyline of the game, using that to enhance their game play experience. Ironically, though, those players are often seen as geeks or losers for getting too into the game. So how important is the lore of the game? Several games manage with out much lore, and others thrive cuz of the stories. Some people choose mmorpgs based off of the theme and some just play whatever their friends play. posted by GOTOMonster @ 12:07 AM 0 Comments On Friday, October 2, 2009 at 12:07 AM
Lets Grind (thats what she said) open post
So lets bring things up a notch. So far Ive kinda just been complaining about people on mmorpgs (which I will continue but lets take a break for now).Instead Ima go on about genres of mmorpgs. In the gaming world there is the greate divide between Asian games and Western games. Of course, Asia has been more superior in electronics than the west, ie america (shush, you know this is damn well true) but if thats so then why arent Asian games successful in the western hemisphere (damn Americans just cant accept they suck). In mmorpgs there are two ways to progress through the game. You could sit for the next 100 fucking hours of your life killing monster after monster after monster after monster after...you get the point. Or you COULD run around doing "quests" for npcs (non playable characters) and pretend that you are saving the Empire from eternal damnation and from being raped by evil little green goblins (thats what she said). But with all bias aside. I will tell you why the two genres just dont cross. Because Americans are spoiled and need to be fooled into believing they are single handedly changing the world, therefore their games MUST have some sense of accomplishment or achievement of self greatness (you narcissist, you) . Okay I suppose that was totally a biased low blow. But its true none the less. Lets take a history lesson and realize that Americans were founded on the idea that each person can do great (every one is spechul derr derr) and this runs throughout every aspect of our lives. We were raised on this one and only chosen one bullshit. Hence why quest levling is more appealing to Americans, because we feel a sense of "doing" and we're insecure little bastards that need more love =(. What about Asia? They're just crazy, I have to admit. I mean common, Asians have a channel dedicated to Starcraft matches (which btw I will say, shockingly enough there are some nice looking nerds). The Asian style of leveling tends to require...a lot of dedication. You sit there literally kiling the same monster for the next 321894729834723847 hours just to get to end game. Then at the end you repeat to get better equipment. THEN once that is done. You pick your brain up off of the floor, reattach your emancipated limbs and chug down 5 Monster drinks because youre going to start your second character. No wonder there are chinese leveling farms. Its like the modern day sweat shop (you lazy bastard our children make slave away at your clothes now our teens slave away at your video games). But that is kinda besides the point. I think this is what why Asians are so damn good at math. They will SIT and actually try to do something, no matter how boring it is or could be. Hence why "grinding" still has appeal in Asia. The Asian gamers dont give a damn about being special or a hero whos milk shake brings all the nightelves to the yard (their goverment already took care of that). Theres a completely different social belief in Asian countries. There youre trained to belie youre one of a million, youre just another person down the line of convetor belts. And I think if Asians were really to switch over to quest leveling, they would be out of their element and go crazy with too many FREE choices (and I think the China government would have a bitch fit if video games were teaching their citizens to be free thinkers, then they would end up banning all mmorpgs and all the nerds in Asia aka 99% of the population, would go into a revolt and end the world as it is...now we dont want that do we?). I have to confess. I didnt expect much out of this analysis but Im actually surprised how this really says a lot about the two cultures. Im sure Im not the only one whos noticed this but maybe Ive put it in a little better perspective. P.S. I make lots of prejudice and possibly racist comments in everything (about otheres and myself), its all in good fun. People stop being so sensitive. posted by GOTOMonster @ 11:33 PM 0 Comments On Sunday, September 27, 2009 at 11:33 PM
social bookmarking soulmate epic fail, no body loves WarHammer
So Ive tried, fruitlessly, to look for a place to research social communities in mmorpgs. Twine came close but not completely (or I just have high standards aka, Im too lazy to put up with these social book marking thingys). To be honest I think what I am looking for is kind of difficult to find. Seeing as everytime you type in mmorpg, sites like freemmorpgs start popping up, advertising their free online games. Joy. Over all I searched things like “mmorpgs” “game culture” “online games” and got generally what I expected (ads ads and more ads). Though I found like 3 sites that talked about the psychology of mmorpgs but mostly academic. Which helps with the academic part of my blog topic but I feel like it doesnt give me a “real” enough perspective on things. Sure we need unbiased sources but I want opinions from people not bots. But I have to admit there has been some nice finds. Recently I found a page that belongs to a guy named Nick Yee. (sigh, hes not bad looking, haha jk) He’s exactly on target with what I want to study (which is behaviors and culture of people on mmorpgs). He kind of holds that academic tone, but some of his posts on his site are a little more laid back. He is actually a scientist that is “studying online games and immersive virtual reality”. He takes a look at the online society, is it good or bad, or why we get so addicted or who are the kinds of people who do get addicted. So I feel like hes somewhat of a godsend and that he is probably something I will be referring to a lot, later on. Another pretty interesting site I found is mmohub. They generally just have reviews and discussions about games but every once in a while they will have a nice article about the gaming community. One that stood out to me (which I cannot find at the moment) was something along the lines of “the future of mmos”. They have sprinklings of academic articles about game concepts, gaming benefits, the effects of video games on people, the community culture, and etc. As far as people on Twine, there seems to be a lot. There are several groups (?) that have 8k members. So that times at least 20 and you get the gist of it. And the interests seem pretty spread out. One of the most popular twines is about beer (go figure) to Obama to the iphone (eww apple) . Sadly, mmorpgs didnt make it that high in the Twine tree, but I take it as people arent 1337 enough =P (nerd joke). Honestly I expected there to be more hits on mmorpgs but I guess thats just because of the sheltered life I had as a gamer living in the cyber world. 3d Modeling Character
Kintaro Asami Age: 13 Hes a thief and a mercenary. He was raised in a ghetto and was a pick pocket in order to survive. Later he was caught stealing food from a dojo kitchen and was about to have his hands cut off as punishment, but surprisingly the dojo master decided to take the boy under his wing as a form of punishment. Therefore, Kintaro learned the ways of the samurai and some ninja jujitsu. However, Kintaro grew bored of this life and left the dojo to live as he pleases. Kintaro has no concept of belonging and often will steal things he likes. Worst cases he will kill the person if they absolutely refuse. His sword was stolen from a master butcher and his kimono was stolen from a prostitute that he killed. SO This is a concept for my character, that was inspired by Doa from Blade of the Immortal. posted by GOTOMonster @ 11:55 PM 0 Comments On Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 11:55 PM
Douche Baggery is not for kids-redo
FLAME WARSEver heard of nerd rage? Wtf is it? Its when your mouse goes so far up your ass that you cant do anything but shit out crap from your mouth and you continue to believe that what you have just done is a Good Thing. Seriously, Nerd rage is a case where people start to "yell" (turn on caps lock) at each other over various things in a video game. The most common I can think of is when here is an attempt at coordination of people and someone decides not to listen and fuck up. Thus there goes with the "youre a noob" comment and feces flying everywhere. What is up with people arguing on the internet. The most common thing you will see in online games is the flaming (as I started to mention). Flaming..Flaming is when you just bash and bash people for the most idiotic and prickish reason. Ofcourse, this is a result competitiveness and people getting a little TOO into the game, that their very life depends on winning or losing. But people, CHILL. Ive yet to see a game where people arent yelling at other in vent, or banging nerd rage into their keyboards. Golden example. On the internet there seems to be an idea that, because no one can see you or do anything back to you, physically, that it is OKAY to become a complete asshole. It is okay to make racist comments and spend hours, months, years, trashing people who actually did jack squat to you. Whyyy? WHERE IS THE LOVE? PEACE MY BROTHERS! Why, mmorpgs, must you foster douche bags to become douche barrels? (and not just mmorpgs but the internet itself) And then, I also love how each douche bag move is backed up by the person's skill in pvp (player versus player fights). The more people you kill, the bigger douche bag you can be. The less skill, the less you can hate on someone who actually deserves it. A server I played had thread after thread of people going back and forth, with conversations I can pretty much sum up as "Im a dick but I have more bitches licking my ass for me so Im better than you". No. That does not make you any better. All that means is you just dont know how to use the damn toilet paper to wipe your own little hairy ass. I see the common response to douche baggery as, “why should I care about someone who I’m never going to meet” or “they cant do shit to me” or my favorite “ it’s a free country, I have the right to say what I want”. Ah sigh. (If you want to talk about legal rights, did you know that slander is a chargeable offense =)? ). Sure those are legit reasons but this where I think it just becomes a fact that people in mmorpgs are a little too competitive and they take that competativeness into every argument they can muster up. Attempting to make themselves look smart. I would have examples of such douche baggery but honestly theres just too many to reference. I have to say go to any mmorpg forum and you will see someone starting fights. This is something I will have to come back to. posted by GOTOMonster @ 3:10 PM 0 Comments On Sunday, September 13, 2009 at 3:10 PM

I mades a comment weeeei r lvl up! ZaiNu says: September 13, 2009 at 11:06 pm Ive been tempted many times to buy my way to end game or to buy enhanced items. Fortunately ive had friends who did do that and gave me hammie downs, so my urge has been temporarily subdued. But honestly, in my right mind, i wouldnt buy lvls, waste of money cuz that just brings me closer to the end which brings me closer to getting bored of the game and brings me even closer to doing alt f4. in the end, i’d only buy my lvls if the game has something that can keep me entertained for a long time or if the game is really just that good. Sure i could make some poor kid in china very happy but then again im not that nice with my money. (the statement was in no way meant to be offensive). Plus i dont wanna run around as a lvl XXX (watever the max lvl is in said game) asking how do i use my epik knife. Reply to this comment link for proof: http://blog.weflyspitfires.com/2009/09/10/would-you-buy-levels-in-a-mmorpg/comment-page-1/#comment-9789 yah this is a lame post but required posted by GOTOMonster @ 3:08 PM 0 Comments at 3:08 PM
Trifecta Post (aka one big motha fucker)
Sup, Im WarHammer. Some other names Ive gone by are, CaptainPants, Rigg, Acell, Pit, Vice, etc.
So who the hell am I? I am a fine arts student, struggling to get into the game design world. Hoping to take over Blizzard or to replace Akihiko Yoshida of Square Enix. Video games have been cocaine since my first game 7 years ago. I have a passion for character and story design, and cry myself to sleep wishing to be able to create my own awesome sauce video game one day (be it a mmorpg or a ps3 game). As a internet persona, I can be crude and brutally honest. For I tend to be a hypocrite and take up the idea that, its the internet and I can say watever I want (despite how much I hate on people who do that). But this isnt about me. Its about me educationally bashing on the behaviors of nerds in mass multiplayer online role playing games (mmorpgs). As apart of being a video game designer, I believe its my job to infiltrate the minds of my addicted victims, to learn what makes them tick and how to make my games even more addictive. I have also liked to observe the different players in mmorpgs, I like to observe the way players interact with each other. How some players will take on another persona online, how some guys will pretend to be G.I.R.Ls (guy in real life) for in game benefits, or why girls tend to hide behind a male character. In a way it is like people watching without the awkwardness of staring. You can go as far as still seeing racism, stereotyping, and cliques in the online world. There are still the “preps” (girls or guys who “cam whore” themselves), the nerds (serious gamers who claim superiority in their player versus player (pvp) skills), the loners (like me, those who stay quiet and mind their own business and just play the damn game!), etc. I see some mmorpgs transform from a game into a whole new world for people to live, lie and even love (I have played a game where people tend to focus more on “leveling” their relationships than actually playing their characters).I have been on both the player side, and the admin side and often notice various conflicts. This leads me to try to think, how can I create a game that has most of the right things that players like without making it too easy (mind you I cant speak for customer support, no fuck that). While I find poking into the way people act in an online environment interesting. I still have to say that my true interest is in the game itself. What makes one game more appealing to one group of people than another? Or why certain genres of games make better mmorpgs? Do gamers like games with more storyline or is it just spam text to them? There is a little competition between Asian games and Western games. Japan is often on the top of the list in anything electronic, but nowadays the Western world has caught on to this rising market in video games and is becoming heavy competition to the Asian designers. Though, the two worlds have yet to really merge in any one game (discounting Aion since its still in beta form), there seems to be evidence that easterners and westerners don’t have much in common when it comes to games. Japan has Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and Mario, all very story based games. While in the west corner there is Call of duty, Halo, Crysis, all of which are more gritty and “real”. Of course there are exceptions but nonetheless there is an evident gap between styles. Even in mmorpgs there are the Asian “grind fests” and the Westeners’ need for a purpose to kill 10 Furbolgs. I see various other blogs that discuss things I want to talk about, but some seem to never have enough details or maybe just not enough balls to really say something. Everyone can be too sensitive on the Internet and constantly watch what they say, trying to go neither A or B. But Im here to just fuck things up. My aim is pretty much to write something informative while still be over all amusing (every body loves pee pee jokes) because thats just how I do.. But if people have no clue wtf Im saying then at least they get a couple of shits and giggles from this ( laugh damnit!). And maybe as I violate the world of mmorpgs I might find that there actualy is a "psychology" to video games or I might just find that theyre just complete brain rapes. SO, video games. The hiv of humanity? I would sometimes like to think so (coughfuckingtrollscough). Honestly, the online world has two faces. Its a god send and its the devils cake. It will fuck you in the ass and then bake you a cake (kinda like that sour patch kids commercial). I have seen flamers have a feast upon my friends, I have had my caps lock on auto drive, I have seen hours of just nonstop ‘STFU NOOB’ being thrown around and sometimes I will take a step back after an epik 3 hour long flame war, and think to myself ‘why the hell am I wasting my time with this?’ (answering this question with a well deserved facepalm). However I cant say that I’ve never experienced a pleasent time online. I have met a nice group of friends who have been with me for several years now, but this is exactly what John Funk means when he wrote Virtual Worlds and MMORPGS: The Best and Worst of Humanity. John Funk is a gamer and a reviewer, who is mostly seen on either The Escapist (known for the critic god “Zero Puncuation” Yahtzee Croshaw) or WarCry Net. Both sites are heavily into gaming and expand from MMORPGS to console games. His blogs consist of various game reviews and sometimes poking deeper into the mechanics or appeal of the game and every once in a while he takes a step back and looks at the bigger picture. He discusses current events in the gaming world like UN Group Urges Japan to Ban Explicit Games and Manga, Aion: Making East Meet West, or like Juan Carlos Pinerio Escoriaza’s Second Skin documentary (discussing people with virtual lives), which I find particularly interesting. Overall his blog touches on the topics I want to explore and in particular, his “Virtual Worlds and MMORPGs: The Best and Worst of Humanity” discusses the virtual lives of people that I am really planning to look into (however my view might be a little more…gritty or just plain biased to a certain point). He really takes the time to research his topics and brings in a lot of first-hand sources; he does a lot of interviews with common players and even the designers of the games. John Funk seems to be on similar wavelength as me, as far as what gaming world topic that he discusses, and he could provide a very good researched base for my topics which I intend use and abuse, but he tends to take a very neutral side on every topic he discusses. Which could be exactly what is appropriate for his purpose or for that site, but I intend to take these topics down where the sun don’t shine. I want to get a more realistic view from players and I plan to be able to go to various forums and actually get direct responses from players. Unfortunately, my analysis might turn into rants due to the fact that Im mostly exploring douche baggery on the internetz, but, for me, I dont want sugar coatings on my posts, I want to keep it real, as they say. Because bitches on the internet shall receive no mercy, for if they taketh away I shall giveth back with a ban hammer. As a result, a lot of my style comes from some of the greatest bashers of all time. One of which, I bestow upon you, the great Yahtzee, basher of gonads and slayer of boobies. For some reason I have always found ranting to be quite amusing, especially ranting mixed in with witty comments. To top it off, a brit accent always comes in nicely and makes the rant an all-more epik pwnage. “Yahtzee” Crowshaw (Zero Punctuation) has always been my favorite ranter/video blogger due to the way he whips out insults and witty comments faster than a 12 yr old boy with porn whipping out his…oh oops. Now,Yahtzee doesn’t really talk about “important” things in the video game world, but does make very funny game review videos (mostly ranting about the shittyness of the game). He has a very nice stream of consciousness style, even though I believe most of his videos are rehearsed (or I would hope so) and he just tops as one of my favorite internet personalities (coming in second is psychedelicsnake from youtube). He takes on a very casual way of talking along with a little bit of dirty humor here and there that makes his conversations very free and, well, like a rant (prepare for the words gonads and cock to be thrown around a lot). Some of my favorite things he says are, Then a load of dofuses run around trying to stop an evil cult whose summoning a dark lord which ruins the touristy, but playing on the ps1, now looks like an ass made out of lego. The atmosphere is like a foot thick shiget (?) of whale blubber draped over your head He also is known for his narcissistic tone when he critiques video games. I make a policy of never reading other people’s reviews because it can taint my own recollation of the game and because im increasingly certain that im the only person on earth whose brain works properly. Sometimes its hard to catch everything he says (as shown in my second quote) since he talks at the speed of light, but this tends to add more to the comedy of his game reviews (at least for me). For a ranting game review, the crack head speed seems to add to the frustration he expresses in each of his v-blogs (most of his blogs are negative reviews of games since negativity, honestly, tends to be funnier). What really adds to his cheesecake though is that, with a v-blog you have the benefit of pictures. He has a very interesting way of putting his words into imagery and honestly you’d have to watch a video to see how it all works together (I highly suggest either Oblivion or Alone in the Dark). In many ways, with his v-blogs, he bridges text with video. In the video his images will either be pictures of what hes describing or simply words that add emphasis to what he just said (or just allows you to know what the hell he just said). Yahtzee is really a strong personality to me, he really is a genius at comedy and commentary. Every time I finish watching his videos, I can still hear his voice narrating everything I do (like a tiny british man living inside my brain saying ‘GONADS’ after I just ran into a pole). So, another long post for the win. And I leave you with great words from an even greater man. “Its time to kick ass and chew bubble gum…But Im all out of bubble gum.” posted by GOTOMonster @ 2:52 PM 0 Comments On Thursday, September 10, 2009 at 2:52 PM
Men likes the thongs and Women likes the pants (open post)
This blog will be updated later but as of right now i started my little research as to why guys will play girl characters and why girls will play male characters. I personally take up the pants.
So Ive posted this question in 5 Forums (4 of which are game forums and 1 which is a more general talkabouteverything forum). World of Warcraft WarHammer Ragnarok Online Requiem Soompi This has only been the first hour but so far its been epik fail...and already some trollish replies (troll=people who spam because mama didnt love them). Maybe Im just not asking it right. ____ Update: 2 hours, Requiem seems to be giving more informative responses Update: 1 day, lots of trollish posts but still some interesting responses Update: Finished and Post starts here v ___________________________________________________________________________ I already know this post will probably be LONG, but Ill keep it short and try to resist from bashing people I like to call “item WHORES”. (Some of you might come to find that whore is my favorite word to say) Okay, so one of my favorite things to do in games, when im not grinding to my next lvl, is to bash on people who pretend to be the opposite sex for personal gain. Yes, ive seen my share of “sexy hot women” who turn arent ...so… hot and sexy. (my friend has had the joy of actually catching one of the game masters (GM, aka people who run the game) pretending to be a girl. But this isnt much of a surprise if you play an asian-based game, sadly (as if asian men dont look like girls already, they gotta actually pretend to be girls). BUT, this post isnt gonna just be me hating on item whores, no. As much fun as that might be. Actually, I find crossdressing (this is a guy and this is a girl) kinda interesting. Ill confess, im a girl who plays a guy character and I have pretended to be a guy before (not to get favors from girls). However, my “kind” is a rarity and ive actually had a friend make the comment “I refuse to believe that a girl is playing a guy unless ive heard them on vent” (vent is a voice chat program). Hah, I made him eat his own balls. Anyways, this has led me to wonder, am I really alone? Sadly, Ive actually never met another girl who plays guy characters beside myself. And this has led me to want to know why is it that there arent as many girls playing guys as there are creepe- er I mean guys, playing girls. Am I just weird? So I manned up (haha pun) and went around various forums and asked, why would people play the opposite sex? Now, ive kinda already had a list of reasons put together (for guys mostly..) and as one of my friends said, the top of the list is “PHAT LOOT”. Aka, guys play female characters so they can fuck with other guys into giving them items, paying for things, and doing favors. Douche baggery for the win? I mean you kinda have to realize that people who play video games are….not as socially ….gifted (I mean look at me, talking to new people face to face scares the shit out of me). So when a cute girl practically flings herself onto their e-penis, you can only imagine a little nerdy boy yelping for joy, thanking the gods, and putting away their mail order bride applications because THEY are getting laid tooo NIGHT. Ah, hah. No.. Put away the lotion. Yah, because her web cam apparently “broke” when you decided to ask to chat with her. I know countless cases where a guy gives everything (even real money), only to realize their sweet heart has a little something extra. This kinda proves how human kind is, well, human kind. We are greedy and even in a virtual world where nothing has any real REASONABLE value, we still want want want. So pretty much, guys pretend to be girls to scam other guys. Would it be right to question their sexuality? Sure, be my guest. End of story. JK. Theres more. The next most popular reason ive heard, which only proves guys are pigs (jk =P ) is the classic statement “if im gonna be starting at the computer screen all day I rather be staring at a girl”. Theres not much to say about this. Everyone knows that video games are male dominant and of course to appeal to that audience, they make female characters look like Barbie. My response? WELL, If IM going to stare at the screen all day then I wanna look at a guy character. Nuf said. So make more sexy men characters! Though Ill quickly comment that, Ive discovered that these two reasons mostly happens in asian games. A lot of players in the western games, I surveyed, were kinda appauled to think that people are switching genders. I remember once I was playing a guy and told his guy that I was a girl and he freaked out, and I replied that I was just kidding (since he nearly had a bitch fit) and his response was “THATS NOT FUNNY. DONT KID AROUND LIKE THAT. ITS WRONG” (jesus, calm the fuck down). But I think this kinda attributes to a cultural thing, because cross dressing between men AND women, in asia, is actually more apparent and accepted. Where as in the west (particularly America), …not so much (what are you! Gay??? Lesbian??….sigh). Moving on. Pretty much the comments were consistent; “I like boobies, blah blah blah” but a couple of them stood out. A lot of players responded with “I dont know why I just do” but some made the comment that they feel like the male characters are just too unbearable (as guys themselves) or that some classes they thought that the costume on the female were better or the class just fit a female character better. Okay thats legit, and I kinda give props to guys like that. This reason is pretty simple and not much to expand upon. (Okay the feminist inside is just like, fuck that they just dont wanna sound like douche bags, they likes the boobies). So, Ive talked a bit about the guys’ reasons, what about girls who play guys? Ill start off, personally, I just want to play the damn game. I used to play as a female character and I got spams from horny guys who wanted my photo in trade for some gear. Honestly, people latch onto you if youre a girl. And I just got tired of this, so I played a guy. NO ONE bothered me. It was awesome, and I could make friends without them expecting some hot lovin (no…just no, get away from me foo). But. Why didnt I get girls hanging over me if guys do that to girls? I think its because in society (eastern and western) there is a notion that the guy must make the first move. I mean sure, Ive had girls flirt with me thinking that, them telling me about being sad and lonely for a “fwend” :< boo hoo *sniff sniff* <3 love !!11 ^.^ is gonna make me want to start giving them attention. But generally, the guy makes the move. No move no girls choaking on your....PIXIE STICK. But yah, no one gives a damn about you if youre a guy (unless youre popular and or have a cute photo posted somewhere). WHICH, I actually like. I dont want messages from creepy guys asking for a “good time”. Yes theres the occasional spammage from a girl who thinks she can *snuggle* my +10 Double Bloody Double Penetration main gauche out of my hands (no pun intended). But generally, you get to play casually as a guy. And hey I like my eye candy too. The only other reason Ive heard from a girl, as to why they play male characters is because of the sexism. My friend particularly hates how Bloodelfs are anorexic and either picks the more normal looking characters, or just goes male. This is kind of a big deal for girls in video games. But the fact is just this, games are for guys. They are made for guys, designed for guys, advertised for guys. Heck the only game advertised for a girl is Barbie Pet Rescue, and you cant really fault the companies. Ive seen many people just bash on companies, saying theyre sexist and demand a change, but honestly, 99% of players are male. Its just not smart to go with what a majority of your players DO NOT like. Im not saying, “go sexism!” No. I just saying, people need to stop complaining about every little thing that’s unfair. As Ive learn in pre-school, Life's not fair. Hey, if girls want more video games to be targeted at them, then STOP COMPLAINING. Start playing video games, make the female population grow and maybe they’ll start putting in some nice man candy for the girls. MORE GIRLS IN GAMES! LET OUR BOOBIES- er PRESENCE BE SEEN! Okay this was hellishly long, and I KNOW Ive missed several things but I have to end this as my eyes slowly start to bleed. Plus my sexy male bloodelf is calling me. :D posted by GOTOMonster @ 1:11 PM 0 Comments On Friday, September 4, 2009 at 1:11 PM

Humanity is ending! Wait lemme save real quick. (Profile Post)
The online world has two faces. Its a god send and its the devils cake. As an avid citizen of the online world, I could vouch that it can rapidly change from a safe haven to the Apocalypse at the drop of a Warlord Skullcap(Warhammer reference).
